December 18, 2007

Cleveland Steamers had to win four games in a row with a Masters loss in the final week to win a tiebreaker and get the last playoff spot. They entered the playoffs with the worst record of any playoff team - two games over .500. Then they dispatch the two other playoff teams in their division as well as the division winner from the South to become the 2007 Tower Fantasy Football League champion. Fi Card Charlee had scored over 102 points six straight weeks and was averaging 127 point/game through the semi-finals. Their players had a melt down when it mattered the most. Cleveland Steamers defeat Fi Card Charlee 102 to 81 in the Super Bowl. The most points scored by any playoff team was by Bevo's Revenge. They defeated Blitzkrieg in the consolation game 124 to 60. Pimpin Ain't Easy defeated the Spice Boys for the second week in a row 110 to 93 in the wild card losers game. The Toilet Bowl also saw repeat winners as Sparky's Oilers took the high team honors for the second week in a row scoring 127 points. The Penetrators 92 total points was also good enough to win the low team honors for the second week in a row. There were five teams within 10 points of the low.

Thanks again everyone for participating. Have a Merry Christmas!

Blame Adrian Peterson and his zero points or blame Brett Favre who decides he won't miss a game and then scores 37 points but third place Cleveland Steamers has defeated Bevo's Revenge to advance to the Tower Fantasy Football League Super Bowl. In a decent scoring, tight game, Cleveland Steamers advances with a 129 to 127 victory. Bevo's Revenge dropped Favre after his injury and instead got 19 points from Ben Roethlisberger. Backup QB Kurt Warner scored 22 points. No upsets in the South, where Fi Card Charlee continues their run beating Blitzkrieg 116 to 95. In the toilet bowl, Sparky's Oilers scored 156 points to easily take the high team honors. The Penetrators won their first prize of the year to take low team honors with 94 total points. Pimpin Ain't Easy defeated the Spice Boys 118 to 101 in the wild card losers consolation game.

It was a week of the wrong place at the wrong time. The division winners have always had the first week of the playoffs off for quite some time. Which two teams scored the most points during the first week of the playoffs? The two division winners. Fi Card Charlee scores 205 points and Bevo's Revenge scores 170. 140 points was the next best any team could score. Blitzkrieg scored the 140 to advance to the semi-finals beating Pimpin Ain't Easy who managed 103 points. The Cleveland Steamers scored only 100 points in their quarter-final game but it was plenty to defeat the Spice Boys. The Spice Boys totaled 67 points which was the second worst total by any team. Their team total with the non-starters was 83 points which would have won low team honors in the toilet bowl by 22 points. The CowHorn LongBoys did win the low team honors with a grand total of 105 points. High team in the toilet bowl went to Lawson's Men with 128 points. This was Lawson's Men's first prize of the year (and they haven't even used their free roster move yet). The semi-finals will have Fi Card Charlee facing Blitzkrieg while Bevo's Revenge will take on the Cleveland Steamers.

November 28, 2007

In the final week of the regular season, Fi Card Charlee and Pimpin Ain't Easy repeated their weekly wins. Fi Card Charlee took high team honors for the third week in a row with 144 points. They finish the year with five high team honors and three high position honors. The eight total is a new season record. Pimpin Ain't Easy won with their running backs last week and this week it was their wide receivers. They totaled 58 points with the combination of Brandon Marshall (24), Marques Colston (11), Bernard Berrian (4), and Chris Cooley (19).

Fi Card Charlee's win also clinched the South division title by one game over Pimpin Ain't Easy. Third place went to Blitzkrieg who lost to last place Coast-to-Coast. Spice Boys lost their second game in a row and the North division title to Bevo's Revenge. This is Bevo's Revenge's second consecutive division title. Cleveland Steamers won their fourth consecutive game and the tiebreaker with the Masters to take third place. Shag-adelic also won in the final week such that both last place teams finished the season with wins.

In the NFL Picks contest, the CowHorn LongBoys defeated last year's champion, Bevo's Revenge, by one game. The 66.5% winning percentage was a new record.

November 22, 2007

Fi Card Charlee  won their second straight high team honor with 176 points (their 7th weekly prize). The seven weekly prizes ties the all time record held by the Zebra's (now the Spice Boys) in 1996. Bevo's Revenge won six weekly prizes in 2003 and 2006. Pimpin Ain't Easy won their first weekly prize taking high position honors with the running back tandem of Edgerrin James (9) and LaDainian Tomlinson (22) for a total of 31 points. Five of the six playoff teams are set with Fi Card Charlee, Blitzkrieg, Pimpin Ain't Easy, Bevo's Revenge, and the Spice Boys guaranteed a spot. The Masters and Cleveland Steamers play this week for the last spot. The conference champions won't be determined until after this week's games.

November 13, 2007

For the second week in a row, 308's opponent wins high team honors. This week it was Fi Card Charlee with 133 points. They barely beat out Sparky's Oilers who scored 132 points. Fi Card Charlee also won the high position prize with the combination of QB Tony Romo (43) and kicker Nick Folk (9) for a total of 52 points. Fi Card Charlee now has won six weekly prizes. They also sit atop the standings in the South. Blitzkrieg lost their second game in a row and now is tied with Pimpin Ain't Easy for second. They have a two game lead over fourth place with two games left. In the North, the two first place teams both won and have a two game lead over second. The Masters currently sits in third place with three teams below them in striking distance.

November 10, 2007

Sparky's Oilers does it again. For the second week in a row and the third overall, they took the high team honors with 197 points. They barely beat Bevo's Revenge who finished with 193 points. Shag-adelic won their first weekly prize with the receivers combination of Joey Galloway (18), Larry Fitzgerald (9), Lee Evans (18) and Tony Gonzalez (15) for a total of 60 points. In the South, Blitzkrieg was defeated by the CowHorn LongBoys in a must win game for CL. Fi Card Charlee and Blitzkrieg are now tied for the lead. Pimpin Ain't Easy lost to Coast-to-Coast and allow CL to pull within one game of third. This was Coast-to-Coast's first win of the season. In the North, the top three teams all won and look good for the playoffs. There are big games in the North as the top four teams play each other. CL has another must win game against third place Pimpin Ain't Easy.

November 2, 2007

Sparky's Oilers wins high team honors for the second time this year. This is just as crazy as the college football season. Then, even though Marvin Harrison scores nothing, Sparky's Oilers sweep the high position honors scoring 67 points (Roy Williams 7; Greg Jennings 29; Antonio Gates 31). Go Pack! In the South, Blitzkrieg won the showdown with fellow first place team Pimpin Ain't Easy 85 to 76 to take sole position of first. Two games separates the playoff teams from the rest of the pack. Coast-to-Coast remains winless. In the North, Bevo's Revenge was upset by Lawson's Men. Bevo's and Spice Boys are tied for first with the Masters and Jim Beam Traveler one game behind. Two games separates the rest of the pack. Shag-adelic still has just one win.

October 23, 2007

No record breaking performances this week but the CowHorn LongBoys still score an impressive 171 points to take the high team honors. They also took the high position honors with 84 points for their first two weekly honors of the year. The duo of QB Tom Brady (61) and K Josh Brown (23) beat out the rest of the field. Just past the half way mark of the season and there have been 7 different teams winning weekly honors (308 isn't one of them). The playoff races are pretty wide open as there are essentially at least one team at every level of the loss column. Every team is still technically eligible for the playoffs. In the South, you have two teams with one loss and one with two losses. Every team has a reasonable chance except for Coast-to-Coast who stands as the only team without a win. They have had a league leading 866 points scored against them so far. No one else has had over 800 scored against them. In the North, every team has a win and every team has a loss. Record setting Bevo's Revenge stands at the top of the standings.

October 22, 2007

Week 6

Bevo's Revenge scores an amazing 248 points to take high team honors. This overshadows an equally amazing 189 point effort by Pimpin Ain't Easy. This is the highest point total ever recorded going back at least as far as 1996. The old record was also held by Bevo's Revenge scoring 221 points in 2003. As you would expect, Bevo's Revenge also took high position honors for its receiver corps (80 points) of T.J. Houshmandzadeh (36); Terrell Owens (11), Steve Smith (29) and Jason Witten (4).

Week 5

Another low scoring week as only four teams again break 100 points. Two of these teams had the unfortunate scheduling to play each other. Spice Boys scores a week high 119 points to defeat Lawson's Men. This is the Spice Boys second weekly honor. Fi Card Charlee wins high position for the second week in a row and their fourth overall. The running back combination of Ronnie Brown (18) and Reggie Bush (11) totaled 29 points. This represents the lowest scoring win of any position since 1996. In 1996, we awarded based on the highest player and not the entire group of players making the mark even more memorable.

Week 4

It was a low scoring week as only four teams broke 100 points. Best of the four was Fi Card Charlee who totaled 141 points. Fi Card Charlee sweeps the weekly honors scoring 72 points for high position with the combination of QB Tony Romo (58) and K Robbie Gould (14). Tony Romo has now been involved in both QB week winners.

October 21, 2007

Week 3

Holy Cow! Sparky's Oilers scores 207 points. That may be more points than they scored all last year combined. It was a huge week. That's the highest point total since Coast-to-Coast (another fluke) scored 208 points in week 12 of 2005. The Cleveland Steamers won their second weekly honor of the year taking the high position honor with 74 points thanks to the combination of Roy Williams (35), Randy Moss (25), Torry Holt (6), and Kellen Winslow (8).

Week 2

Scores were higher in week two as over half of the teams scored over 100 points. The Cleveland Steamers took high team honors scoring a season best 171 points. The Spice Boys took high position honors with 49 points using the RB tandem of Willie Parker (22) and Edgerrin James (27).

October 18, 2007

Week 1

Most games are competitive in the first week. High team honors are shared by the Masters and Fi Card Charlee with 155 points. The Masters also takes high position with the combination of QB Tony Romo (60) and K Adam Vinatieri (13) for a total of 73.
