The finals were a blowout. Cleveland Steamers rolled over Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls 104 to 67. Only two teams in the whole league scored fewer point than the Bulls. If the Bulls had played their top scoring players, they would have finished the game with 120 points. Six teams scored more than the Cleveland Steamers but that didn’t matter. Also, both teams drafted seventh in their respective divisions. This is the second championship for Cleveland Steamers who also won in 2007. Congratulations Cleveland Steamers!

In the other playoff related games, 308 defeated Blitzkrieg 95 to 72 to win the consolation game while Obama Been Fondlin won the most competitive game in the wild card loser match up beating Coast-to-Coast 139 to 134. The toilet bowl for week three was a repeat of week one as the Masters took high team and Sparky’s Oilers took low team. The Masters scored 139 points to edge out Fi Card Charlee by two points. Sparky’s Oilers won low team fairly easily with a total of 80 points.

Dishonorable mention to CowHorn LongBoys who made it through the regular season and the playoffs without winning a single award. The only team in the league to do that.

I do want to apologize for my absence the first half of the season. Though my team prospered during that time I felt I wasn’t providing the league the service it deserves. Hopefully it won’t happen again.

Merry Christmas everyone!

December 16, 2010

It’s amazing how one big play or event can change a game. The South division championship was a close game between Blitzkrieg and second year team Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls. The Bulls were able to score 15 points from a San Diego shutout (which almost never happens). The dominating defensive performance of San Diego led to 36 points. That resulted in a 113 to 106 victory for the Bulls and a place in the finals. In the North, DeSean Jackson took a ten yard out pass 91 yards for a touchdown. That one place resulted in 24 points for the Cleveland Steamers who finished with a 17 point victory over 308. So your final matchup is Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls versus Cleveland Steamers.

The toilet bowl wasn’t near as competitive. The Penetrators, behind Darren McFadden’s 73 points, dominated the high team bracket with 160 points. It was an upset in the low team bracket as I Bet She’s Wet was able to take the honors with a total of 82 points. The Texans had a good week and that doomed Sparky’s Oilers chances of sweeping the low team awards. I Bet She’s Wet won their first prize of the season and that now leaves CowHorn LongBoys as the lone team to not win a prize this season. Lastly, Coast-to-Coast won the wild card losers battle over Obama Been Fondlin 113 to 71.

December 7, 2010

The Masters went through the regular season winning only three games and zero weekly prizes. In the first week of the toilet bowl, they take the high team honors with 120 points beating Bevo’s Revenge by one point and the Penetrators by three points. The low team wasn’t a competition. Sparky’s Oilers totaled 74 points with their entire roster which was less than every other team’s starting lineup.

In the playoffs, second year team Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls puts up the highest score of the week with 137 points and defeats Coast-to-Coast to advance to the semi-finals. In the North, 308 was able to revenge a loss in the final week of the regular season against Obama Been Fondlin and wins 116 to 92. 308 takes on Cleveland Steams in the semi-finals while Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls takes on Blitzkrieg.

November 30, 2010

Final week team honors went to Bevo’s Revenge and Ditka for President who both won their third weekly honor of the season. That ties for the most weekly prizes won by any team – 308, Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls, and the Penetrators also won three weekly prizes. Bevo’s Revenge scored 152 points for the week to beat Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls by ten points. Ditka easily won high position with the receiver corps of Anquan Boldin (2), Santonio Holmes (9), Miles Austin (27) and Todd Heap (22) with a total of 60 points.

Best record in the league for 2010 was by Cleveland Steamers with nine wins. Five teams finished with eight wins and one of those (Bevo’s Revenge) didn’t make the playoffs. In the North, Obama Been Fondlin defeated 308 by four points which put them in a three way tie for second with 308 and Bevo’s Revenge. They also won the tie breaker for second place followed by 308. In the South, Blitzkrieg won the tie breaker with Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls to take the division title. Coast-to-Coast won the tie breaker over Fi Card Charlee for the last playoff spot in the South.

Sparky’s Oilers and I Bet She’s Wet both finished at the bottom of their respective divisions with one win each. Sparky’s finished the season losing 10 straight while I Bet lost 6 straight.

Cleveland Steamers also won the NFL Pick contest. Tied for second and two games back were 308 and Pimpin Ain’t Easy.

November 23, 2010

It was a clean sweep for 308 who took both high team (165 points) and high position (53 points) honors. RBs Michael Turner (32 points) and Arian Foster (21 points) led the way. Just as improbable, the Masters win only their second game of the year but it was against North division leading Cleveland Steamers who are now tied with 308 for first place.  Another one win team, I Bet She’s Wet, was able to tie Coast-to-Coast but lost on the tie-breaker. That allowed Coast to end the week in a three way tie for first place in the South as division leading Blitzkrieg lost to Pimpin Ain’t Easy. Not only are there three teams tied for first but two more only one game back. Back in the North, you have the two teams tied for first and another two team one game back and another one game back of them.

November 19, 2010

Fi Card Charlee easily won high team honors with 174 points (thanks to Vick). The 174 points was the most scored by any team this season just beating the 171points scored by Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls in the first week of the season. Unfortunately for Fi Card Charlee, their kicker only scored 5 points. That meant the other team with Vick, Bevo’s Revenge, was able to take high position honors. Their kicker, David Buehler, scored 7 points and along with Michael Vick’s 69 points totaled 76 points. That was also the high position score of the year beating week 6 and Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy’s receiver corp’s 71 points.

I should probably not have started with the updates because unlike every other football time I follow, 308 has been doing well without me (I should rename it to 154). 308 has won five in a row and sits one game behind North division leading Cleveland Steamers. Tied with 308 is Bevo’s Revenge and there are two teams one game behind them. In the South, Blitzkrieg has a one game lead in a pretty tight division. Three teams are one game behind and two others one more out. On the bottom of the standings are three teams with one win. I’m not sure if Sparky’s Oilers was ever in but the Masters and I Bet She’s Wet have no excuses.

November 14, 2010

No updates the first 9.5 weeks of the season. Pretty lame, I admit.

I've updated the weekly team winners. Two double winners so far - Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls and the Cleveland Steamers. Surprise winner was Sparky's Oilers in week 2 who I'm not sure knows he is still in the league this year (not that the record looks any different). The closest weeks so far have been week 3 when Cleveland Steamers won by two points over Fi Card Charlee and week 9 where 308 won by two points over Obama Been Fondlin and four points over Pimpin Ain't Easy.

The Penetrators are the only out right winners of multiple weeks so far for weekly position prizes. They won back to back in weeks 3 and 4. Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls split two different weeks with other teams. In week 7, Schultz and Ditka for President had the same identical QB and kicker to tie for the prize. Ditka also won week 2.
