The 2002 Season
Season X
Update December 18, 2002
Congratulations to the Masters. They survived a Las Vegas draft cooped up in a room the size of a closet and went on to win the 2002 Tower League championship. In a relatively low scoring but very close game, Tom Brady's ten yard quarterback sneak (his first rushing touchdown of the year) proved to be the difference in a 127 to 122 win over Sparky's Oilers. Sparky's Oilers went back and forth on which receiver to start between Hines Ward and Jerry Porter, eventually settling on Ward. Porter ended up with 12 points while Ward had 3. A nice come back by the Masters on Monday night to win it all. Consolation wins to Bevo's Revenge and Change One-Hundred!! Toilet bowl winners were Lawson's Men with an impressive 166 points and last but not least (well actually it is least) Starr's Cigars finally showed their true colors by winning the low team honors with 98 points.
Once again, thanks everyone for participating. Have a happy holidays and get ready for Vegas '03.
Update December 10, 2002
Showing that the regular season was no fluke, the Masters and Sparky's Oilers both score 145 points (which was the tops for any teams) to easily defeat their semi-final opponents. Similar to the BCS, the two best teams will be playing each other in the finals. Good luck to both teams. In the toilet bowl, the CowHorn LongBoys got back to their winning ways by taking high team honors with 118 points. Shag-adelic's starters outscored five other toilet bowl teams but their backups only scored 5 points (111 total) which allowed them to narrowly defeat Fi Card Charlee by one point for low team.
Update December 3, 2002
I was too depressed to update this timely. Santa (a/k/a 308) came early for Bevo's Revenge. We tried to be smart, saw that it was going to be one of coldest and windiest games ever in Buffalo, and switch quarterbacks. So what does Bledsoe due but score 53 points while we have him on the bench. Bevo's Revenge wins 133 to 107. That hurt more than UT losing to OU and A&M firing Slocum combined. There's always next year. In the other playoff game, the North division continued to flex its muscles with Jim Beam Traveler (behind Vick's 71 points!) annihilating Change One-Hundred!! 194 to 108. That's a new playoff recording beating the 187 points scored by Lawson's Men in the 1998 semi-finals. The toilet bowl competitions were very close as well. Three Men and a Faulker won high team (141 points) by less than four points over two other teams. In the loser's bracket, Breaking Wind took dishonors with 120 total points.
Update November 26, 2002
It was a crazy last weekend of the regular season. All I can say is that I love the head coach position. Three Men and a Faulker (153 points) won high team by one point over Bevo's Revenge. Shag-adelic won high position honors and they used a Dallas Cowboy! They easily won with 65 points (Toomer 21; Freeman 7; Galloway 31; C. Lewis 6). No body wanted to make the playoffs in the South. There were five teams with a chance to make the playoffs and four of them lost (including both teams tied for the division lead). The only team to win was Change One-Hundred!! who was playing one of the other possible playoff teams. In fact, three of the four lowest scores this week were from teams with playoff possibilities. Talk about choking (308 was one of them). Since everyone was losing, Sparky's Oilers back doored to the division title and 308 back doored to a wild card spot. Change One-Hundred!! won the other wild card spot. 308 got in because Jim Beam Traveler was able to beat Fi Card Charlee by two points. The deciding points came from Philadelphia's head coach who used and second (and third) string quarterback to beat SF in SF. It's the first time I've ever rooted for Philadelphia. This was a critical win for Jim Beam Traveler as well as it propelled them into a wild card spot. Bevo's Revenge crushed the Spice Boys for the other wild card spot. The Masters continued to roll into the playoffs beating 308. I've updated the receivables detail as well as the playoff brackets.

Update November 19, 2002
The big game this week was a shoot out similar to the UT-Tech game. Fi Card Charlee and Sparky's Oilers tied at 143 while Fi Card Charlee wins the tie-breaker 48 to 47. Can't get much closer than that. The Masters continued their dominating season winning high team honors with 155 points. They also clinched the North division championship. Hopefully they will rest their starters this week. High position was split three ways with the Penetrators, Bevo's Revenge and 308 all scoring 30 running back points. The playoff situation got a little clearer but not much. In the North, the Masters have clinched first place. Jim Beam Traveler (who have won six in a row after starting 1-4), Spice Boys (who lost for the first time after a six game winning streak), and Bevo's Revenge will battle for the last two spots. Bevo's Revenge takes on Spice Boys this week while Jim Beam Traveler plays Fi Card Charlee (who is still in contention in the South). The South division is a mess. Five teams still have a shot at making the playoffs. Big games include an elimination game between the Penetrators and Change One-Hundred!! and a battle of division leaders with 308 taking on the Masters.
Update November 12, 2002
What is harder to believe? 308 loses its third consecutive game and falls out of first place or OU loses to A&M. The answer is neither. The hardest thing to believe is that Sparky's Oilers is in first place by itself. Sparky's Oilers has traditionally been the easy win (before the Starr's joined the league). The Oilers/Titans/Texans situation must have confused Clinton enough that he's making rational moves. Congrats on the good season. It was a high scoring week. The Penetrators scored the second highest points this season to win high team with 176 points. Change One-Hundred!! took high position honors with 78 points (Manning 47; Vinatieri 31). This was the highest position score this year by nine points. These two players by themselves would have beat four team's entire scores (and none of those were the Starr's). There are only two weeks left in the regular season and the playoff standings are still tight. Only three teams have been eliminated from the playoff race. No surprise is the Starr's who don't even currently have a quarterback who actually plays. The other two are a big surprise. Both Lawson's Men and the CowHorn LongBoys have been eliminated. These two teams have won three of the last four championships. Glad you guys are letting the rest of us have a shot at it this year.
Update November 6, 2002
Fi Card Charlee won their fourth weekly prize last week. They have won all three of the weekly position prizes when receivers were up. They won this week with the combination of J. Smith 14; Price 11; Owens 19; and McMichael 1 for a total of 45 points. In a very tight competition, Spice Boys and The Masters tied for high team honors with 115 points. There were five teams within ten points of the weekly prize. The Master's won the big match up last week and now have a comfortable two game lead for first place in the North. There are essentially three other teams playing for the other two playoff spots though no teams are eliminated yet. In the South, 308 lost a heart breaker by one point and is now tied with Sparky's Oilers for first. Only three games separates the top seven teams in the South so it is still wide open.
Update October 30, 2002
Breaking Wind won their third weekly prize with high team honors. Their 143 points beat Fi Card Charlee by one point. Spice Boys won their first weekly prize of the year with a running back total of 48 points (McAllister 38; A. Smith 10). The playoff situation is still tight. There are four games to play and no one is technically eliminated. The Starr's made some roster moves which have subsequently backfired. They finished last week with 31 points which may be a record. The big game this week is Bevo's Revenge vs. The Masters which pits #1 versus #2 in the North Division.
Update October 22, 2002
The stars must have been in alignment this week. 308 wins its first weekly prize since the 2000 season taking the high team honors with 140 points. The Masters win high position for the second time with the combination of QB Brooks (30 points) and K Wilkins (28 points). The scary thing this week was that the Starr's almost pulled out a win and high team honors using Quincy Carter. Sorry he's now been benched. It was a tight week as nine teams scored over 120 points.
Update October 15, 2002
You probably didn't know it but I was refusing to update my website during UT's national championship run. Now that it is over, I can resume my fantasy updating. So what has happened in the last three weeks. We'll start with the individual awards. In week four we had a split of the weekly prizes. Lawson's Men took high team with 178 points (a season high so far) while Three Men and a Faulker took high position with 53 points (Gannon 42; UT-ex Dawson 11). The next two weeks saw sweeps -- Breaking Wind in week five and Fi Card Charlee in week six. Breaking Wind had 153 total points and 69 running back points (Dillon 41; Martin 28). Fi Card Charlee scored 145 total points while tallying 49 receiver points (J. Smith 4; Price 19; Owens 20; McMichael 6). Fi Card Charlee has swept the receiver weeks so far with five different receivers.
The standings have had a shakeup. There are no undefeated teams and only four teams have one loss. Only three teams are more than one game back from a playoff spot. The CowHorn LongBoys, who started 2-0, currently have the longest losing streak of four games. The hottest teams with three game winning streaks are Bevo's Revenge and the Penetrators (who started off with a three game losing streak). We're officially at the half way point and it's wide open.
I've updated the weekly winnings section of the accounts receivable detail. I'll work on getting trade amounts updated this week.
Also, I noted that the website doesn't handle tie breakers for regular season games. As a result, you will see there was a tie last week.
Update September 24, 2002
One day later and I've got week three posted. The Masters became the first team to win two full weekly honors. They won high team this week with 156 points. High position went to Fi Card Charlee who scored 61 points with the quartet of Price (8), Rod Smith (16), Owens (25) and McMichael (12). Looking at the standings, we're down to three undefeated teams and three teams without a win. One more week and the losers start to get ragged on. Look out, Penetrators.
Update September 23, 2002
I'm back to one week behind. Actually at this point, week three isn't finished so I'm really caught up. It just doesn't feel that way. Bevo's Revenge took high team honors with 135 points and split the high position honors with Shag-adelic with 48 points. Bevo's had Anthony Thomas (14) and Fred Taylor (34) while Shag-adelic had Priest Holmes (11) and Thomas Jones (37). Most of the games were fairly close this week. Poor Fi Card Charlee is now 0-2 and lost both games by one point. That is tough to take. We have five undefeated teams after two weeks and five teams without a win. Too many to rag on individually at this point. I hope we have all the kinks worked out of the roster move process. If there are still questions, let me know.
Update September 16, 2002
Took me a while but I've finally got a few things updated for week one. The shock of Dallas beating Tennessee counter acted the shock of Dallas losing to Houston and I finally could focus on the week one results. All of the playoff teams from last year won except The Penetrators who I'm happy to say lost to playoff team 308. Prior year champion CowHorn LongBoys also won. Unlike Houston, both expansion teams lost the first week. They both scored over 100 points in their losing efforts (as did Sparky's Oilers) so they were fielding good teams. High team went to Change One-Hundred!! (formally known as Freddie Boom Boom) with 165 points. They needed everyone of them as they team they beat (Sparky's Oilers) had the fourth most points this week. High position went to The Masters with 56 points (Brooks 32; Wilkins 24). They also won high position honors the first week of last season with 41 points.
Update August 17, 2002
I've updated most of the reports for the change in teams (and names) and the rule changes.
Update August 1, 2002
I've been harassed enough and decided to finally update my website for the new season - the tenth. As I was updating the web pages I realized I was using the wrong roman numerals for nine last year. That's an Aggie move if I've ever seen one.
