December 23, 2009

It was a blowout. Blitzkrieg had its second worst point output of the season and gets crushed by the Masters 127 to 76. It was the worst defeat in the finals since Change One-Hundred!! defeated Jim Beam Traveler 133 to 79 in 2004. This is the Masters second championship as they also won in 2002 by defeating Sparky's Oilers (???). Though Aaron Rodgers was a solid performer for them, the Masters never had the same person repeat a week as high scorer. They had high point weeks from almost every position. Also, they didn't make their first roster move until mid-November and only made 5 total. Congrats, Steve and Mike. In other action, Fi Card Charlee won the consolation game over Bevo's Revenge in another blowout 131 to 75. Ditka for President defeated Coast-to-Coast for the second week in a row. This time 112 to 107 for the wild card loser prize. The Penetrators scored 153 points to beat out 308 for the high team honors of the toilet bowl while Sparky's Oilers blew away the field for the low team honors with an amazing 60 point total. The toilet bowl had six different winners during the three week playoff run. The welcome to the league award goes to Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls who managed to be the only team to not week any kind of weekly prize throughout the season.

December 16, 2009

Scoring 122 points isn't bad but it wasn't enough last week. Both Fi Card Charlee and Bevo's Revenge put up 122 points in the semi-finals but were defeated by Blitkrieg (184 points) and the Masters (137), respectively. Blitzkrieg's 184 points was the third highest output of the year (they also own the top spot with 190 points). Blitzkrieg will put its 7 game winning streak on the line against North division champion, the Masters, who has won more games than any other team this year (and scored more points). In other action, Cleveland Steamers won the high team honor of the toilet bowl with 130 points. The Brazos Beatdown had low team honors with 101 points for their first prize of the year. That leaves one team, newcomer Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls, who hasn't won a prize of any sort. Welcome to the league! Lastly, Ditka for President defeated Coast-to-Coast 118 to 105 for the wild card loser prize.

December 8, 2009

Both second place teams blew out their third place competition in the first round of the playoffs. Blitzkrieg won 133-79 over Coast-to-Coast and will now play Fi Card Charlee in the semi-finals while Bevo's Revenge defeated Ditka for President 115-69 and will take on the Masters. Pimpin Ain't Easy scored 145 points and that was two points better than the Brazos Beatdown for high team honors of the toilet bowl. 308 dominated the loser's portion of the toilet bowl. Our 103 total points was lower than any other team's starters. That season long slide finally paid off.

December 2, 2009

In the last week of the regular season, Blitzkrieg won their third weekly prize and the Masters their fourth. Blitzkrieg took the high team honors with 159 points. The Masters took high position honors with 59 points behind the receiving tandem of WRs Terrell Owens (24), Brandon Marshall (8), Marques Colston (19), and TE Dallas Clark (8). Both teams also made the playoffs. The Masters won the North division with Bevo's Revenge and their seven game winning streak one game behind in second. Ditka for President lost but so did Cleveland Steamers and Ditka took the third place spot. In the South, Fi Card Charlee lost their second game in a row but had already clinched the division championship. Blitzkrieg won their fifth game in a row to take second in the tie breaker with Coast-to-Coast. Pimpin Ain't Easy and the Penetrators finished one game back. Special recognition goes to the Brazos Beatdown who finished the season with one win and an eight game losing streak. In the NFL picks contest, Blitzkrieg takes another prize winning top honors with a 71% pick percentage. They were two games better than the Spice Boys who came in second.

Heading into the final games of the regular season so I need to hurry to get out the week 11 results. Ditka for President easily won high team honors with 154 points. Bevo's Revenge rode running backs Ricky Williams (40 points) and Chris Johnson (15 points) for high position honors with 55 total points. This was the third weekly prize for Ditka for President and the first for Bevo's Revenge. Only four teams haven't won a weekly prize. 308 broke their seven game losing streak to give the Brazos Beatdown their seventh loss in a row and a guarantee of the worst record in the league. The other long streak is by Bevo's Revenge who has now won six in a row and is alone in second place in the North one game behind the Masters. Ditka for President has a one game lead over Cleveland Steamers but the Cleveland Steamers have the tie breaker if they finish with the same record. The top four teams all play each other in the final week. In the South, Fi Card Charlee has the division title but four other teams are currently tied for second place.

November 19, 2009

Despite a 7 game losing streak, 308 did manage to take the high position honors in week 10. QB Peyton Manning (34) and K David Akers (10) combined for 44 points. Blitzkrieg scored 190 points to easily win high team honors. Their 190 points represents the highest any team has scored this season. Both division leaders now have two game leads and have clinched playoff spots. In the North, there are three fighting for the final two playoff spots. In the South, there are still six teams fighting it out for two playoff spots.

November 15, 2009

Losing streaks do not motivate me to update my website. 308 has lost six in a row (longest streak in the league) yet has scored the second highest points of any team in the division. The only thing that could be more frustrating would be a Florida-Alabama rematch in the BCS championship game. Week 8 was dominated by Fi Card Charlee who swept both weekly honors. They took high team with 186 points (the highest score of any team this year) and high position with 87 points using the running back tandem of Frank Gore (32) and Maurice Jones-Drew (55). Week 9 had a lot of teams in contention for high team honors but Pimpin Ain't Easy scored 153 points to beat out Jim Beam Traveler by one point. That kept Jim Beam Traveler from sweeping the honors as they did take the high position with 95 points (the highest position score this year). Receivers Randy Moss (31), Larry Fitzgerald (22), and Miles Austin (16) plus tight end Greg Olsen (26) accumulated the points for a blow out win. In the standings, we're down to three games. In the North, the Masters has a two game lead (and the best record in the league) and will clinch a playoff spot with one more win. After that, there are five teams in playoff contention. The South is much closer where Fi Card Charlee has a one game lead over second but every could possibly make the playoffs if they win out.

October 27, 2009

What's the current longest streak in the league? It would be 308's four game losing streak. During this streak 308 has averaged 113 points. Talk about bad timing. Enough whining. In the North, the Masters now has a two game lead. The next six teams are within one game of each other. The South has two teams with two losses, two with three, two with four and two with five. Everyone is still in it. I saved the weekly honors for last as I had to double check the results. I thought I had done something wrong. Sparky's Oilers takes the high position honor and shares the high team honor with the Penetrators. I can't think of two less deserving teams. Both teams scored 152 points to tie for high team. Sparky's used the QB/K combo of Tom Brady (42) and Neil Rackers (6) to score 48 points and narrowly win high position.

October 20, 2009

I skipped a week so I need to report on the last two week's results. There was a theme for both weeks and it had to do with Pimpin Ain't Easy. They took three of the four weekly awards over the two weeks. In week five, they won high team honors with 160 points and high position with 49 points from running backs Michael Turner (24) and Ray Rice (25). In week six, they took high position honors again - this time with receivers Hines Ward (30), Wes Welker (27), Greg Jennings (6) and Antonio Gate (7) for a total of 70 points. Cleveland Steams scored a season high by any team with 161 points to take the high team honors. Things are very close in the South where only two games separates every team and there are three teams tied for first. In the North, the Masters has a one game lead over Cleveland Steamers. After that, there are four teams tied for third. The Masters lost their first game in week five, so every team has a win and a loss.

October 11, 2009

I always take a loss hard and the swine flu didn't help. As such, I'm a little late with the week four results. It was the week of the Masters. They won both weekly awards and are also the lone undefeated team. They won high team honors relatively easy with 137 points. It was their second high team honor in a row. They scored 52 of those points with the combination of QB Aaron Rodgers (41 points) and K Stephen Gostkowski (11). As I alluded to, 308 lost its first game as did the Penetrators. Making matters worse for 308 was that it lost to the Brazos Beatdown giving them their first win of the season. That means every team has now won at least one game. And for six of you, that's it.

September 29, 2009

The three undefeated teams stayed undefeated. Two of the teams without a loss won so we're down to one winless team (The Brazos Beatdown). The Masters narrowly won high team honors with 139 points. That was three points better than Fi Card Charlee. The next highest scoring team was Pimpin' Ain't Easy who unfortunately was playing Fi Card Charlee. Fi Card Charlee did win half of the high position honor by scoring 46 points with their receiving corps (Reggie Wayne 19; Andre Johnson 8; Steve Smith 8; Dallas Clark 11). Ditka for President shared the high position honor (Torry Holt 5; Greg Jennings 10; DeSean Jackson 29; Visanthe Shiancoe 2) and became the first team to win multiple weekly honors.

September 24, 2009

It was a great week to have Frank Gore as your running back. Unless you were going against Chris Johnson. Chris Johnson scored 80 points which I believe is a single player record. Both teams with Johnson won this week and both teams won weekly prizes. Blitzkrieg took high team honors with 156 points but only got five points from RB Brandon Jacobs. Jim Beam Traveler got seven points from Clinton Portis and that was enough to take the high position honors with a total of 87 points. After two weeks, we're down to three undefeated teams and three winless teams.

September 18, 2009

I was expecting one of the Drew Brees teams to win the high position prize this week. To my surprise it was won by CowHorn LongBoys with Tony Romo. He (56) and Mason Crosby (11) combined for 67 points. Ditka for President has already cashed in on their #1 pick position taking the high team honors with 142 points. They were led by Adrian Peterson's 46 points. The three lowest scoring games were all decided by three points or less. We even had a tie (won by Coast-to-Coast). In the timing is everything department, five of the losing teams could have beaten three of the winning teams if they had been paired up together (including 308). Congratulations to new team Schultz Malt Liquor Bulls who won their first game despite all my concerns about the draft. I never heard how things worked out but it led to a win all the same.
