2018 March Madness Notes
It was a crazy March Madness full of upsets and surprise
champions. It started off predictable as Tim Deithloff and Bill Boyd had perfect
brackets in the Big 12 tournament. With that said, Chris Birchfield tied the
record for fewest points (1) in the same contest. There were no other records on
the winners side. Brad Reagan tied the record set the prior year by Rob Reagan
with 1 point and a 7% pick percentage in the second chance pool. We also had an
all-time low score in the seed pool by Tim Sittler (79).
Villanova was a 1 seed so not a surprise winner (140
entries). 49 entries picked Michigan to make it to the finals. Nine entries picked
Loyola-Chicago to make it to the great eight but none to the final four. No one
picked Virginia to lose in the first round either. Lorie Corkins picked
Villanova and won first place by 7 points over Jim Freeman and Bruce Harris. Lee
Reece took last place.
Will Fitts won the second chance pool while Paul Anzaldua
won the seed contest.
No one picked Notre Dame to win the women’s tournament
but Shannon Legg did good enough for first place. Peter Brielmann came in last
place. Only one person picked Penn St. to win the NIT and David Webb won the
contest as a result. Rob Reagan took last place in the NIT. No one picked
Minnesota-Duluth to win the hockey tournament but Americo Leva won the
tiebreaker to get first place. Jim Muntean came in last.
3/11/18
The Big 12 contest set records on both ends of the spectrum. There were two perfect brackets which represent the 4th and 5th time that has ever happened. Tim Deithloff won the tiebreaker over Bill Boyd. Tim won the second chance pool back in 2012. Tim is also on a roll as he won the Super Bowl Props contest back in February. Chris Birchfield picked up 3rd place but also took last place scoring 1 point. This tied for the lowest point total in Big 12 contest history.
