Pierre Delecto was the Alabama of the 2020 Tower Fantasy
Football League season. They won their first two games of the season and then
lost to one hit wonders who scored 220 points to win by 15. They then won their
next nine regular season games as well as three playoff games. They won the
championship game 191 to 185 in a very close game against underdog the
Wonderlickers. This was the first championship under the Pierre Delecto name but
they’ve won a championship or two in the past. 191 points was the second highest
in a championship game (behind last year’s 206 by the Wonderlickers). The 185
points by runner up the Wonderlickers was by far the most by a runner up (150 –
The Penetrators in 2019). Cleveland Steamers won the consolation game for the
second year in a row and the third overall beating CowHorn LongBoys 158 to 139.
308 avenged last week’s loss to Teen Spirit 184 to 131 in the battle of wild
card losers. The Penetrators took the high team honors in the Toilet Bowl
scoring 169 points. They tied for the honor in the first week. Hoosier Daddy
took high team honors in the second week of the playoffs and followed that with
the low team honors of the Toilet Bowl scoring 137 total points.
I wasn’t sure we would have a season this year and I wasn’t sure how it would go. For the most part, it went fairly smoothly. Thank you all for toughing it out and having a season. Merry Christmas everyone and stay safe.
December 15, 2020
Pierre Delecto continued their strong season defeating
the CowHorn LongBoys 191 to 161 to make the finals. In their second consecutive
upset, the Wonderlickers defeated North champion Cleveland Steamers 199 to 133.
The Wonderlickers are going for their second consecutive championship. Teen
Spirit defeated 308 200 to 162 in the wild card losers game. Hoosier Daddy
scored 168 points to take the high team honors of the toilet bowl while one hit
wonders could only muster 111 points and took low team honors.
December 9, 2020
It was upsets and close races in week one of the
playoffs. Both third place teams won as CowHorn LongBoys knocked off Teen Spirit
173 to 161 and the Wonderlickers defeated 308 194 to 139. There was a tie for
high team honors of the Toilet Bowl as Take a Hike and the Penetrators both
scored 177 points (no tiebreaker in the Toilet Bowl). Low team in the Toilet
Bowl was quite a battle. You might have thought Hoosier Daddy would win as their
starters only scored 82 points. Nope. Their reserves scored 63 points. Then you
might think it was Sparky’s Oilers whose starters only scored 99 points. Nope.
Maybe one hit wonders (101) or # YESSIR (129)? Nope. Nope. It was It’s the
Pleats whose starters scored 137 points but their reserves only scored 4 points
for a total of 141. Congrats to them(?)!
December 2, 2020
# YESSIR finished the season on a high note scoring the
highest weekly score of the entire season with 249 points. Not only was it the
highest weekly score this season but may have been the highest scoring week in
league history. Bevo’s Revenge had a 248 week in 2007. This was their second
weekly prize of the season and they never used their free roster move all
season. Coast also never used their free roster move and finished with two wins.
Coast finished with the worst record in the league. Bevo’s Revenge and one hit
wonders split the high position prize as both had the Pittsburgh Steelers (17).
This was the first weekly prize for Bevo’s Revenge and the second for one hit
wonders. 11 teams won weekly prizes during the season. That means there is a lot
of competition for the toilet bowl this year. Pierre Delecto finished the
regular season with only one loss. 2016 was the last year with a one loss team
(Hoosier Daddy). They won the South while Cleveland Steamers won the North (with
2 losses). The other playoff teams are 308 and the Wonderlickers in the North
and Teen Spirit and CowHorn LongBoys in the South. Take a Hike maintained its
one game lead over Cleveland Steamers in the NFL Pickem contest. That year off
must have helped with prognosticating.
November 24, 2020
It’s the Pleats took their second
high team honors in the last three weeks scoring 191 points. That’s their fourth
overall weekly prize. CowHorn LongBoys got their second weekly prize and for the
second time it was from their receiver corp. They scored 128 points from WRs
Keenan Allen (39), Mike Evans (15), Cooper Kupp (25), Justin Jefferson (20), and
TE Travis Kelce (29). Both division winners have been determined – Cleveland
Steamers in the North and Pierre Delecto in the South.
In the North, there are four team battling for
the two remaining playoff spots. In the South, Teen Spirit and CowHorn LongBoys
have clinched their wild card spots. Congrats to Coast for winning their second
game of the year. It’s also the last week for the NFL Pickem contest. Take a
Hike currently has a one game lead over Cleveland Steamers.
Happy Thanksgiving all. Be safe.
November 17, 2020
Pierre Delecto and the Wonderlickers both picked up their
league leading fourth weekly prizes this week. Pierre Delecto scored 180 points
to win high team honors for the fourth time in the last 6 weeks. The
Wonderlickers won all three RB high position weeks. This time scoring 66 points
with RBs Mike Davis (8), Derrick Henry (11), Alvin Kamara (34) and Aaron Jones
(13). Pierre Delecto now sits alone in first place in the South at 9-1. Teen
Spirit found itself in a tie with the Penetrators even though the Penetrators
had two players score zero points. In the tiebreaker, Teen Spirit didn’t have
any reserve players score while the Penetrators had only Tom Brady in reserves
who scored. It was enough to give Teen Spirit their second loss of the season
and move them to second place. Both Pierre Delecto and Teen Spirit have locked
down playoff spots. There are four teams battling for the last playoff spot. In
the North, Cleveland Steamers continue to only have one loss and have clinched
the division title. None of the other team have clinched a playoff spot as only
two games separate the second place teams from the last place teams.
November 10, 2020
It’s the Pleats swept the weekly
awards to pick up their second and third weekly prizes of the season. They took
high team honors with 195 points and high position with 61 points. They have won
two position prizes with QB Kyler Murray (55) but different kickers (Rodrigo
Blankenship – 6). Cleveland Steamers has a two game lead in the North and Pierre
Delecto and Teen Spirit have two game leads in the South. Still a ton of teams
battling for the other playoff spots.
November 7, 2020
Pierre Delecto won their third high team honors in the
last four weeks scoring 190 points. The Penetrators won high position for the
second week in a row with the Philadelphia Eagles defense (26 points). This is
their third weekly prize which is tied with Pierre Delecto and the Wonderlickers
for the most in the league. The South is still a two team race with Pierre
Delecto and Teen Spirit tied with one loss. Five teams are within one game for
the final playoff spot. The North is spread out as Cleveland Steamers is alone
in first with one loss. There is a team with 6, 5, 4, 3, and 2 wins.
October 27, 2020
I had to double and triple check
the scores but 308 took high team honors scoring 203 points for its first weekly
prize. It was almost a sweep but the Penetrators scored 121 points with its
receivers corps of Davante Adams (50), Tyler Boyd (30), Calvin Ridley (19),
Travis Fulgham (12), and TE George Kittle (10). There is some separation in the
North as two games separate 3rd from 4th. In the South, two teams are tied for
the lead and then there is a two game separation.
October 20, 2020
When you are undefeated, sometimes the only way to lose
is to play a team who has a big week. Teen Spirit did that this week losing to
Pierre Delecto. Pierre Delecto scored the most points of any team this week
(173) to take high team honors for the second week in a row. You might think
that was unfortunate timing for Teen Spirit to play the high scoring team of the
week. You would be wrong. It turns out that Teen Spirit would have lost to every
other team in the league this past week. They were the only team in the league
to not score 100 points (84). A strange week indeed. The Wonderlickers crushed
the high position honors winning their second RB weekly prize. Of course, they
had Derrick Henry who scored 48 points by himself. Besides Henry, they had Mike
Davis (13), Aaron Jones (12), and Ronald Jones II (25) for a total of 98 points
(which would have defeated Teen Spirit). We’re at the halfway point and there
are three teams with 1 loss and only one team with 1 win (Coast). The standings
are starting to spread out but everyone is still in it.
October 14, 2020
For a while, I thought we were reverting to season 1
where each team had to score their own games and report back to me who won. Not
sure what happened with the statistics provider but it looks like they got it
resolved with a new vendor. Pierre Delecto was the lone team to score over 200
points (204) and took high team honors. Sparky’s Oilers took high position
scoring 56 points with the combination of QB Deshaun Watson (37) and K Wil Lutz
(19). After five weeks, we’ve had 9 teams win weekly prizes. 308 is not one of
them. Teen Spirit stayed undefeated and # YESSIR, Coast, and one hit wonders are
all stuck with one win.
October 6, 2020
Both teams starting the week winless pulled off wins.
Sparky’s Oilers defeated Take a Hike and # YESSIR scored 212 points in the win
over 308 which was also good for high team honors for the week. The lone
undefeated team Teen Spirit won to stay that way. The Kansas City Chiefs (14)
were the highest scoring defense in week 4 and Hoosier Daddy had them on their
starting lineup to take the high position prize.
September 29, 2020
Four teams scored over 200 point
including Pierre Delecto who lost for the first time this season. Previously
winless one hit wonders scored 220 points to win that game and take high team
honors (even starting a player who was out). Three of the four undefeated teams
going into the week lost leaving only Teen Spirit still undefeated. Two of the
four winless teams going into the week one so we have Sparky’s Oilers and #
YESSIR as the only winless teams. Needless to say, the standings are bunched up.
CowHorn LongBoys dominated high position with 102 points from the receivers
tandem of Keenan Allen (35), Mike Evans (14), Cooper Kupp (28), CeeDee Lamb
(11), and TE Travis Kece (14).
September 22, 2020
The Wonderlickers ran away with high team honors in week
2 scoring 239 points. They also easily took high position scoring 110 points
with 4 running backs (Derrick Henry 8, Alvin Kamara 37, Aaron Jones 54, Ronald
Jones II 11). After two weeks, we’re down to four undefeated teams – 2 in each
division. That means there are also four teams without a win – 2 in each
division. Interesting fact – Teen Spirit is undefeated and scored 310 points in
two games. Hoosier Daddy has scored 5 less points (305) and hasn’t won a game.
September 15, 2020
We made it through one week and no major controversies
(other than the Cowboys pass interference). It was good to see some things don’t
change (Cleveland Browns; Sparky’s Oilers). But did anyone think It’s the Pleats
would take high position with QB Kyler Murray (35) and K Matt Prater (14). I
didn’t think so. The Penetrators picked up from last year’s second place finish
and took high team honors scoring 223 points. They say you improve the most
between your first and second game. We’ll see if that works for fantasy
football.
