Both teams left a lot of points
on the bench (neither team scored over 80% of their potential). When it was all
said and done, underdog the Wonderlickers were able to outscore the CowHorn
LongBoys 179 to 148 and win the Platt Bowl. This is the Wonderlickers second
title in the last three years (they were the runner up in the other year). They
have had quite a run. Take a Hike took consolation defeating Teen Spirit 146 to
100. Hoosier Daddy won their second wild card loser match defeating It’s the
Pleats 127 to 110. In the Toilet Bowl, Bevo’s Revenge took high team honors
scoring 161 points. After two consecutive weeks winning high team, 308 finished
out the playoffs taking low team honors scoring 153 points.
It’s been another challenging year with scheduling,
players missing time, etc. Appreciate everyone’s participation. Have a great new
year!
December 22, 2021
There was one huge upset in the semi-finals. Third place
Wonderlickers scored huge points on Tuesday to defeat Take a Hike by one point
(154 to 153). Also winning was the CowHorn LongBoys who easily took care of Teen
Spirit 155 to 132. South champion CowHorn LongBoys will play North third place
the Wonderlickers in the Platt Bowl championship game. The championship game is
named in the honor of James Platt who has been in the league from the start and
has essentially been my co-commissioner. The South division has a long history
of fun and eventful drafts with them being in Las Vegas since 1995. If it wasn’t
for James’ hard work, not sure that cast of characters could have actually made
it there every year. I appreciate all that James has done for the league these
years and am happy to name the championship game in his honor.
There were other prizes won this week. 308 and # YESSIR
won Toilet Bowl prizes for the second week in a row. 308 took high team honors
scoring 164 points and beating Coast by two points. # YESSIR rode their zero
point bench to take low team honors with 105 points. Hoosier Daddy defeated It’s
the Pleats in the wild card loser game 135 to 92.
December 14, 2021
The wild card games weren’t particularly entertaining.
Teen Spirit defeated Hoosier Daddy 182 to 127 and will take on CowHorn LongBoys.
The Wonderlickers knocked off It’s the Pleats 156 to 138 and will play Take a
Hike in the semi-finals. The Toilet Bowl winners happened to be paired against
each other. 308 scored 217 points besting Sparky’s Oilers 203 points for high
team. # YESSIR got zero points from their bench (and two starters) to finish
with 108 points and take low team honors.
December 7, 2021
There were some high scoring teams and some close games.
Teen Spirit defeated the Penetrators 201 to 196 which was a close game but also
the highest score of the week. It’s the Pleats also scored 196 points while
Cleveland Steamers scored 187. The other close game was Take a Hike defeating
the Wonderlickers 133 to 131 to clinch the North division. The Wonderlickers
finished in third place while It’s the Pleats came in second. The top two teams
in the South won to keep their place – CowHorn LongBoys came in first while Teen
Spirit came in second. Hoosier Daddy was the only team to win out of the big log
jam for third. Back to weekly prizes, Teen Spirit won their fourth of the year
while It’s the Pleats got their second. There were no surprises in the pickem
contest as Hoosier Daddy finished with the best record and Bevo’s Revenge came
in second.
Playoffs start this week with the wild card games. Teen
Spirit takes on Hoosier Daddy while It’s the Pleats plays the Wonderlickers. The
rest of us start the Toilet Bowl.
November 30, 2021
The Horns didn’t make a bowl game but they won their
final game. 308 doesn’t make the playoffs but swept the weekly prizes. 308
easily won high team honors with 205 points. They also won high position scoring
82 points with the receiver crew of Keenan Allen (15), Tyler Lockett (12),
Jaylen Waddle (28), Elijah Moore (8), and TE Mark Andrews (19). With one game
left, each division has one team alone in first place (Take a Hike and CowHorn
LongBoys) and one team alone in second place (It’s the Pleats and Teen Spirit).
The Wonderlickers are alone in third in the North and guaranteed a playoff spot.
There are four teams tied for third in the South so lots to be determined there.
All six of the South playoff eligible teams are playing each other. This will
also be the last week of the NFL picks contest. Hoosier Daddy has a commanding 5
game lead while Bevo’s Revenge is 3 games in front of third place.
November 26, 2021
Believe it or not, there are only two weeks left in the
regular season. Underdogs won about half of the games keeping the season hard to
predict. Teen Spirit was one of those teams and they easily took high team
honors scoring 225 points. They also swept the weekly prizes scoring 108 points
with the RB group of Dalvin Cook (21), Austin Ekeler (48), D’Andre Swift (30)
and Antonio Gibson. That win also put them into a 5-way tie for second place in
the South. The CowHorn LongBoys have the one game lead. This was Teen Spirit’s
second and third weekly prize this season. The North is mostly a three team race
with Take a Hike having a one game lead over two other teams. Six of the eight
games this week involve potential playoff teams.
November 16, 2021
Showing once again how crazy this season has been, Pierre
Delecto not only gets only their second win of the season (still worst record in
the league) but also wins high team honors. It was the lowest scoring winning
week of the season but still a win. This is their first weekly prize. Patrick
Mahomes won the high QB week for the third time in four tries. This time with
Coast (again). Coast scored 69 points with the combination of QB Patrick Mahomes
(51 – Go Whataburger!), K Tyler Bass (9), and D New Orleans Saints (9). This is
Coast’s second weekly prize. Teams with the worst record won four games. Close
game of the week to Bevo’s Revenge and Cleveland Steamers. It couldn’t get any
closer. Thanks to Deebo Samuel’s 36 points Monday night, Cleveland Steamers was
able to tie Bevo’s 137 to 137. They then outscored Bevo’s 27 to 26 in bench
points to take the win and stay one game behind the division leaders. In the
North, It’s the Pleats has lost four in a row and moved out of first place for
the first time. There are five teams within two games of each other. The South
is even more bunched up. There is a four-way tie for first and seven teams are
within two games of each other. Every game will count as we wind down the
regular season.
November 9, 2021
It was a really weird week for the NFL and created some
unique lineup issues for fantasy football. I don’t remember some of the lineup
announcements being so late. No one picked up Colt. Close game of the week went
to the Wonderlickers and Bevo’s Revenge with the Wonderlickers winning 133 to
131. High team went to the Penetrators who scored 188 points with 104 coming
from their RBs. Unfortunately for them, it was a receivers week. The
aforementioned Wonderlickers took the high position honors scoring 86 points
with WRs Cooper Kupp (20), A.J. Brown (9), Marquise Brown (20), Michael Pittman
Jr. (20), and TE Travis Kelce (17). The North standings has become tight with
five teams within one game of each other. Early leader It’s the Pleats has lost
3 or their last 4. The South has seven teams within two games of each other.
November 2, 2021
There is nothing worse than
scoring the second most points in the league and lose. The Wonderlickers scored
185 points but it wasn’t enough to top Cleveland Steamers who scored 203 points.
This is Cleveland Steamers second high team honor in a row and third in the last
four weeks. It was a week of upsets as the team with the worst record went 5-2
for the week. Both division leaders lost. As a result, the standings are still
pretty tight with most teams still in the playoff hunt. 308 has now won all
three RB high position weeks scoring 70 points with RBs Derrick Henry (6), Aaron
Jones (23), Austin Ekeler (24), and Chase Edmonds (17). This is their 4th
weekly prize overall. Close game of the week was Hoosier Daddy’s 2 point victory
over the Penetrators.
October 26, 2021
It was quite the battle for high team honors. Cleveland
Steamers scored 59 points on Monday night to finish with 209 points. This was
one better than Sparky’s Oilers and three better than the Wonderlickers. This is
Cleveland Steamers second high team honor in the last three weeks. Also in a
close race, Bevo’s Revenge lost their game but won high position scoring 57
points with QB Joe Burrow (47), K Ryan Succop (7), and D Denver Broncos (3).
It’s the Pleats got back on the winning track is the lone team with one loss.
The standings are still pretty tight at this point.
October 21, 2021
I’m late getting this out but
that’s because football has been tough to me this year. My Electra Tigers have
lost two in row. The Longhorns have blown 4th quarter leads the last
two weeks. The Cowboys tried but they are the good news so far for me. Then
fantasy football. I’m expecting an easy win against winless Who Dat?? Jameis
Baby!! to make my week better. So was does Who Dat do? Wins high team honors
with 197 points and gets their first win. It hurt just typing this. It was that
kind of week as Pierre Delecto also got their first win of the season defeating
Sparky’s Oilers. On the other side, It’s the Pleats lost for the first time to
Bevo’s Revenge and now there are no more undefeated teams. # YESSIR won their
third weekly prize of the season taking high position honors with 95 points.
Their receiver group consisted of Antonio Brown (27), Robert Woods (14), Adam
Thielen (29), Amari Cooper (10), and TE T.J. Hockenson (15). The standings got a
little tighter with all the upsets this past week.
October 12, 2021
Another crazy week of football. Don’t want to talk about
my Longhorns. Aggies like Jimbo again. In fantasy football, five teams scored
more than 200 points and four of them played each other. Cleveland Steamers was
the high team of the week with 233 points and beat the number three team 308 233
to 225. This was the first weekly win for Cleveland Steamers. WAP (IBSW for the
20s) beat winless Pierre Delecto 226 to 201 (that’s tough for a winless team to
score over 200 and not get the win). Undefeated It’s the Pleats also scored over
200 (218). 308 did take high position honors scoring 89 points with the RB group
of Derrick Henry (33), Aaron Jones (14), Austin Ekeler (37) and Chase Edmonds
(5). This is their second RB weekly prize and third overall. The South division
had very close games. Coast and CowHorn LongBoys both won by 3 points while Team
Spirit and Hoosier Daddy both scored 162 points (Teen took the tiebreaker).
Along with Pierre Delecto, Who Dat?? Jameis Baby!! remains winless and is the
only team to score under 700 points cumulative this year. The standings are
starting to stretch out with one undefeated team and three with only one loss.
October 5, 2021
Two teams scored 200+ points this week and they played
each other. # YESSIR scored 200 points but they took the L all the same to It’s
the Pleats who scored 208 points and stayed undefeated for the year. # YESSIR
did get the consolation prize of high position for the week. They scored 96
points with QB Patrick Mahomes (46), K Rodrigo Blankenship (12), and D Buffalo
Bills (38). This is their second weekly prize. Close game of the week honors
goes to Teen Spirit and WAP (IBSW for the 20s) who tied at 148 points (WAP won
the tiebreaker). Also a close game was Who Dat?? Jameis Baby!! losing by only
one point to the Wonderlickers (147 to 146). As a result, Who Dat remains
winless. Pierre Delecto also remains winless. Bevo’s Revenge got their first win
of the season defeating 308. All of the races are pretty tight right now. Lots
of football left to play.
September 28, 2021
Teen Spirit was the only team to score over 200 points
(209) and took high team honors. The only team to score under 100 was previously
undefeated Hoosier Daddy (96). Take a Hike lost a nail-biter (by 2 points) to
undefeated It’s the Pleats (who had Tucker) but did take the high position honor
for the week as a consolation prize. They scored 102 points with the receiver
crew of Mike Evans (18), Mike Williams (36), D.J. Moore (20), Chase Claypool
(18), and Darren Waller (10). It’s the Pleats is the lone remaining undefeated
team after three games as four undefeated teams lost this week. On the other
side of the standings, there are still three teams without a win – Bevo’s
Revenge, Who Dat?? Jameis Baby!!, Pierre Delecto. Cleveland Steamers and
Sparky’s Oilers got their first wins. The standings are still tight as you would
expect. What you wouldn’t expect is a 5-way tie for first in the South.
September 21, 2021
The stars aligned for 308 and they took high team honors
scoring 229 points (5 more than WAP (IBSW for the 20s)) and high position
scoring 121 points with RBs Derrick Henry (56), Aaron Jones (43), and Austin
Ekeler (22). The scheduling was weird in week two. In the North, the four
undefeated teams played the four winless teams and three of the undefeated teams
won. In the South, the four undefeated teams played each other and the four
winless teams played each other. Hoosier Daddy and CowHorn LongBoys remain the
only undefeated teams in the South. Close game of the week was It’s the Pleats
and Cleveland Steamers playing to a tie at 163 (Pleats won the tiebreaker). Blow
out of the week went to the Wonderlickers who beat Bevo’s Revenge by 82 points.
September 14, 2021
# YESSIR won the final weekly high team award of 2020 and
they win the first weekly high team award of 2021 scoring 191 points. Coast
didn’t win any weekly awards last year (or anything else for that matter) but
win the first weekly high position award this year. They scored 67 points with
the combination of QB Patrick Mahomes (45), K Tyler Bass (13), and D Pittsburgh
Steelers (9). Pillow fight of the week was Teen Spirit’s one point win over
Sparky’s Oilers 138-137. Not a good week to have Aaron Rodgers as your starting
QB (1 point) - Who Dat?? Jameis Baby!! and Sparky's Oilers. Pierre Delecto
already has as many losses as they did last year in the regular season (1).
Coast is one win away from matching last year’s win total (2).
