Rowe Contest is a private, invitation-only sports contest site run by Mark Rowe for family, friends and coworkers. This page explains what information the site keeps about you, why, and who else handles it.
What we keep
- Your account details: name, username, email address and, if you give it, a phone number. Your password is stored only in scrambled (hashed) form.
- Your contest activity: entries, picks, squares, tiebreakers, entry names and messages you post in contest chat.
- Anything you send us: messages through the contact form, access requests and survey answers.
- Your email preferences, records of the emails the site has sent you, and whether they were delivered or opened.
- Basic technical records, such as server logs that include IP addresses, used to keep the site running and to block abuse. Sign-in uses a cookie in your browser.
How it's used
Only to run the contests: showing entries and standings, sending invitations, reminders, confirmations and results, and answering your questions. We don't sell or rent your information, and there is no advertising on the site.
Who else handles it
- Postmark delivers the site's email.
- DigitalOcean hosts the site and its database.
- Google Drive stores backups of the database, in the site owner's own Google account.
- Anthropic's Claude is used to help draft some contest emails and summaries; contest results with entry names or display names may be included in what it is sent.
- ESPN and similar public sports feeds supply game scores. They receive nothing about you.
Who can see what
Other contestants can see your display name and entry names, and your picks once a contest's reveal rules allow it, usually after its deadline. On a squares board, your username shows on a square as soon as you claim it. Chat messages removed by an administrator are hidden from everyone but kept on file. Your email address and phone number are visible only to site administrators.
Your choices
- Change which emails you receive at any time from the email preferences page or the unsubscribe link in any email.
- Ask to see, correct or delete your information by emailing the address below. Contest results you took part in may be kept as part of the contest's history.
